I had never imagined if I could
become a teacher as a toddler when I was studying in New Horizon school,
Indiranagar, Bangalore, But on seeing the beauty of teaching knowledge to
others resulted in a passion towards teaching and thus my passion was to teach.
I decided to do some service and
joined a blind school at Indiranagar in the year 1998 after demo classes I got
a job as a mathematics and science teacher in the high school wing on 1st
June 1998 I started my career as a teacher and I started teaching the blind
students which was a really challenging job and got braille training and usage
of math kit for the blind from the school management. I took my first Job as a
challenge and worked really hard and especially during their examination I use
to stay with them day and night and help them in their success and finally I
got 100% results from my first batch of students. Teaching blind students gives
me satisfaction and is also a privilege as they don’t have contact towards the
outside world and they use to concentrate and understand the concepts clearly
through imagination and good memory power.
In 2003, I joined Merry Land High school as a Head of
department of mathematics and also as mathematics and physics teacher for
grades 8, 9 and 10th and this school was a different challenge and
goal oriented for my career and the strength of my grade 10 class was 60. This
school gave me the actual recognition as a full-fledged teacher and I started
going for Grade 10 board exam evaluation duty which moulded me further and
added a feather to my career as a teacher. I tried to explore the hidden
talents of the students based on their potential and try to make mathematics
more interesting and enjoying rather than making them confusing and boring. I
also started working as a part time lecturer in BET first grade college in the afternoon
session.
In the year 2008 I joined Christel
House India as Head of department of mathematics and as a mathematics and
physics teacher. It was another
challenge for me as a teacher to work with underprivileged students. I changed
my teaching methodology and first and foremost I tried to create love towards
mathematics subject among the students and tried various methods to attract the
students towards the subject and I was really happy when I achieved the desired
results. The motto of our school is ‘transforming lives’ which I feel is most ideal as I have come
across six batches of grade 10 students who passed out with good results who are first generation learners.
As every year passes it is a totally
different challenge with different batch of students with different ability. I
feel that as a teacher I shall leave no stone unturned to discharge my duties
as a teacher. Every student has his/her capability and lots of hidden talents
in them we as teachers should try and bring them out and make them civilised
citizens of our country.
